Energy + creativity + collaboration = win, win, win!
A PARTNERSHIP between our team at Rotorua’s Energy Events Centre and education provider NZMA is very much a win-win-win!
“We began working with NZMA in 2017 as one way to support students and for them to gain valuable real-life hospitality experience,” says Operations Manager Steve McClay, adding that Compass has always worked with education providers to enable future hospitality ‘stars’ to grow and learn.
“This is a vital partnership. While it supports NZMA and its students, it also benefits Compass and our client. The students bring a lot of enthusiasm, energy and creativity to the functions and events we hold at the centre, providing guests with a memorable experience each time they attend our events.
“It also allows us to train potential new employees, during work experience, on our world-class practices, policies and procedures. And, we can then identify and recruit amazing talent. My team has said a big benefit for them is that it allows them to become mentors and trainers to the students.”
The students – who enjoy the busy, creative functions – have at major events including the charity fundraiser Dancing with the Stars (1400pax plated, 200pax platters, 600pax kiosk public, 100pax buffet dinner).
“We also all worked together at a Christmas function themed All Things New; we couldn’t use any food or beverages we already served. But our Sous Chef Kavitesh Kishore rose to the challenge and introduced a stunning menu, including Bloody Mary prawn shots, cucumber and creme fraiche prawns, salmon tartar en croute, and homemade chocolates.”
The service, presentation and drinks were also ‘changed up’ and guests were “blown away with the food and presentation”.
But don’t just take our word for it …
“Your students looked fantastic in their shirts and they did a great job, they really blended seamlessly with our current catering team. What a great opportunity for them to shine.”
Karrie-Ann Tuck, Event and Venues Rotorua’s Event coordinator
“Thanks again for the opportunity last week to provide the cocktail and canape function. The students get so much out of the time they get to spend at the Energy Events Centre. We could not provide the practical learning that the students need without the support we get from you. We are looking forward to working with you next year.”
