Reviewers bowled over by University of Otago Oval food

CRICKET reporters rated Compass Group New Zealand’s (Compass) food the best in the country at the University of Otago Oval.

As part of a ‘best cricket experiences’ in New Zealand review, the University of Otago Oval, Saxton Oval and Bay Oval tied with the top scores. While tied, the reviewers admitted: “In truth, Dunedin is best”.

Compass’s Sports and Leisure Sector catered for the South Africa test cricket series in Dunedin, pulling out all the stops to deliver an outstanding VIP experience. A vibrant Village Green treated guests to homemade pies, smokey bacon butties and the traditional South African sausage, boerewors. A 1st XI Club was also set up to provide gourmet foods, craft beers and – a South Island speciality – good old homemade cheese rolls.

“We’re really pleased to have been rated so highly. It’s a real accomplishment to ‘stand out’ as a venue during the busy national cricket season,” says National Operations Manager Robert Prior.

“Highlights included mouth-watering slow-braised beef short rib with garlic mashed potatoes. Feedback from local fans and guests has been awesome; some say we’ve ‘taken match catering to a new level’.”

Compass’s Restaurant Associates brand provides top-notch food services to Forsyth Barr Stadium and the Dunedin Centre. It also employs 400 Dunedin residents, including both full and part-time / casual employees.

“One of the reasons we’re able to create delicious menus and modern dishes is the quality of produce we use; our company sources food and produce locally, working with a great bunch of suppliers so it was rewarding to show respect to the produce and fresh local ingredients,” says Rob.

“It’s also good for our team’s morale – knowing Compass played a key role in another successful series of summer events at the Stadium. Everyone worked to provide a well-rounded overall experience for fans and visitors, showcasing our great city’s talent.”
