Festive fare for hospital patients

Caption: One of our festive Christmas menus created to share a little cheer across our New Zealand hospitals.

Thousands of hospital patients across New Zealand will be treated to a special Christmas Day menu on 25 December, created and prepared by Compass Group’s Medirest teams.

The menus include celebration ham with cranberry sauce, roast or mashed potato, fresh vegetables, and warm Christmas pudding, among other choices including vegetarian options.

“The Christmas season is a very special time for most of us and it can be hard for patients (and their families) being away from home,” says Medirest Chief Operating Officer Julian Baldey.

“That’s why our Medirest teams across the country have worked to create a menu for patients that will taste and feel just a little bit like home.”

Patients will also be personally served their chosen Christmas fare by the company’s Service Associates (FSAs) in some of our hospitals around New Zealand. The FSAs work in specific wards so they enjoy good relationships with hospital staff, as well as an understanding of each ward’s patients’ requirements.

The FSA role is a service focused role which achieves many benefits: patients can order closer to the meal time with a more personalised service; there is consistency through working on wards both with ward staff and understanding patients’ individual needs; and, increased efficiency.

“It’s a personalised approach to food service and it works very well,” says Julian.

“Our teams across New Zealand work to cook and prepare food at this time, while our committed FSAs and hospital employees help serve the food to patients on wards. We are very proud to have such great people working for us and helping to bring some comfort to patients, while supporting hospital employees to care for each patient.”
