CHT residents celebrate St Paddy’s Day

CHT CELEBRATED St Patrick’s Day with its residents with a little Irish flair, over a themed lunch and decorated dining areas across 12 Auckland facilities and three facilities in Bay of Plenty.

“It was a lovely occasion for the residents, who said they enjoyed their meal of Dublin Coddle – bacon and pork sausages stew, Colcannon – creamy mash potato with cabbage and sweet carrots completed with traditional Irish Barmbrack (tea loaf) served with whipped cream,” says Medirest’s Senior Living Implementation Specialist Jamie Wan.

“Our client CHT is very committed to creating a real sense of community and home for the residents they care for; they really wanted people to enjoy the lunch and to have a bit of fun.”

CHT Royal Oak resident Frank Nicolas enjoyed his meal and the occasion so much that he treated the team to a hearty Irish ditty after lunch. Frank is of Scottish descent and, in the past, has been very involved with New Zealand’s Irish and Scottish Celtic communities, including Irish dancing and music.

“It was wonderful seeing people enjoy the meal and Frank’s enthusiasm made our team’s day.”

“The St.Patrick’s Day celebrations went really well and almost everyone in the facility was involved in some sort of preparation like creating crafts, music and so on,” says CHT Royal Oak Manager Sharmila Devaraj.

“Our residents appreciated the special themed lunch and the colourful patterned balloons, which were displayed.”
